Afro Espresso

Africa is known as the motherland of coffee, its discovery tracing back to the highlands of Ethiopia back in the 9th century. No countries of the African continent are amongst the top 3 exporting countries for the bean which was in 2005 the world’s seventh largest legal agricultural export by value. You know I had to sample some goods, and although I didn’t fly through South Africa, I was offered this espresso blend out of the Cape: Afro Espresso.

It is truly amazing packaging and I’m looking forward to cracking it open, but I’ve also brought back some amazing Rwandan and Kenyan coffee so I’m pacing myself.

Furthermore, I was looking forward to filling my cup with my favorite Conca d’Oro espresso blend from Milano Coffee, a classy boutique Vancouver roaster who can compete with the best of the best. Is your espresso blend comprised of 8-9 different beans? Like an excellent wine, my daily espresso has various layers of taste which get revealed to you subtly and exquisitely.

Of course, any serious espresso aficionado will also need the right equipment to get the most of any bean. In my case, I’ve been quite satisfied with my Nuova Simonelli ‘Oscar‘ and as Coffeegeek.com‘s review states:

Sure, it’s plastic where others are metal, but after the first week, I stopped noticing it. The Oscar’s ability to produce a first rate shot, and to do so consistently really belayed any concerns I had over the external “skin” of the device.

I have to admit the packaging is flexing the swellness. Keeps the funk at bay and seems to refuses to reveal it’s true flare ’til you open the container.

Although many coffee beans try to skip the VIP line in my home— I vote Miscela D’Oro, Gran Crema that is. Mo’ betta!

    OH MY GOD!!
The packaging is really nice and I bet what’s in there is amazing!! Everytime I was with you on roadtrip we find some insane coffee so taste those thinking of me mate!
On a side note, the old Italian bomb (espresso machine you put directly on the stove) are a trusty machine for good coffee when you don’t have the utimate one :)

I bought myself an Italian bomb in Kigali and it mos ‘def got me through my times in Rwanda. You can brew some strong tight espressos with these for sure…and you can bring them on road trips…hint, hint!
